This is the third time I have tried to write this and hopefully will be able to finish it. The past few weeks have been difficult and I have been staying busy to keep my mind off of things. This time of year is thankfully packed full of things that need made, tended to, and taken care of so I can easily find something to work on. I am posting this in honor of my mom who taught me to care for a garden, can food, sew, knit, cook and bake.
Our garden is still supplying us with tomatoes and surprised me with a new wave of growth and small green tomatoes. The bell peppers are finally starting to give us green and purple peppers and I was able to chop them up and put them in the freezer to use this winter. We still have a bunch of banana and jalapeno peppers but we still have found victims to take them. The mint garden is still doing well and I will probably pick the rest of the spearmint, peppermint, chocolate mint and orange mint sometime this next week and dry it for tea. I still have some sage and rosemary in the herb garden that need picked and dried as well.
I am trying to prepare for a craft show in October and spent some time making 55 jars of jams and jellies. I hope that adding those to the jars I have made I will have enough. I have also been trying to get some crocheting and knitting done as well. I have so many ideas of things to make but I don’t think I will have enough time to get them done.
I still need to get working on Christmas gifts! I managed to crochet mom a small bear to keep with her to remind her we are with her when we can’t physically be there. I also made a crocheted hat with matching wrist warmers for a niece as a Christmas gift. I found a boy pattern for skull mitts that I will make for Colton. I also will make him a matching hat and if time permits a matching scarf. I am also making washcloths to go with the homemade soap, more wrist warmers, and some spa socks for the girls.
We have been working on the table we picked up at a thrift store for $7.50 cents. It is at least 60 years old and was not in to bad of shape. Colton and I started sanding it and James started helping Colton to finish sanding it. I don’t like that part but I enjoy putting new stain and polyurethane on so I am in the process of doing that. I have one coat to put on the top of the table and the legs and it will be ready to put together and be used. I can’t wait to show it off!
I know this next week will be another one full of worry and uncertainty but if I keep up the pace I may have everything done that I need to get done before Christmas this year!
